1. To increase and diversify dietary intake of safe and nutritious foods to achieve optimal nutrition for women of child bearing age, adolescent girls, infants and young children in the targeted districts.
2. To strengthen multi-sectoral governance of nutrition contribution both to national and district development planning and monitoring as well as informing national level policies.

Primarily, the project aims to enhance the nutrition security in the ten targeted districts namely Chitipa, Karonga, Nkhatabay, Mzimba, Kasungu, Nkhotakota, Salima, Chiradzulu, Thyolo and Mulanje through implementation of interventions that increases availability , access and
utilization of diversified foods at household level. This would in turn lead to improved dietary intake of diversified, safe and nutritious foods among women of childbearing age, adolescent girls, infant and young children particularly under 2 years of age.

FAO and UNICEF are supporting the implementation of the Afikepo Nutrition Programme with financial assistance from the EU, and in close coordination with the Department of Nutrition, HIV and AIDS (DNHA) and the Department of Agriculture Extension Services (DAES). The activities of this project are supporting the diversification and intake of safe and nutritious foods to achieve optimal nutrition for women of child bearing age, adolescent girls, infants and young children.

Outcome one

Improved average individual minimum dietary diversity scores among women of childbearing age (15 – 49 years), infant and young children 6 – 23 months disaggregated by sex) and adolescent girls in targeted districts.

Outcome two

Increased Percentage of Infants and Young Children (6 – < 24 months) who receive the Minimum Acceptable Diet.

Outcome three

Increased Percentage of Infants and Young Children (6 – < 24 months) who receive the Minimum Acceptable Diet.

Outcome four

Increased Percentage of Infants (0 – < 6 Months) who are fed exclusively with breast milk.

Outcome five

Improved adoption rate of integrated nutrition, sanitation and hygiene technologies and practices amongst AFIKEPO targeted and trained households.
